Welcome All Tourists
New York City has become a great place for tourism.

New Yorkers can spot a tourist in a heartbeat. They are frequently noticed by three obvious tells: the slow, wandering walk while looking up at tall, tall buildings; the constant checking of the map while huddled together on a swaying subway car; and the gamut of accents heard from diverse areas like middle America and central Europe. NYC has become a great place for tourism with an expanding culture scene, new restaurants, hip hotels, vibrant new neighborhoods, and a general quality of life that's never been better.

New York City"Tourism will continue to set new records this summer," said Mayor Bloomberg in July 2005. Bloomberg backed up that statement by announceing that 12 million domestic and international visitors will travel to New York City from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Summer 2006 is sure to be just as busy with all the international and domestic visitors hitting New York City's hotspots for the warm and active months.

For the fifth consecutive year, Travel + Leisure magazine has named New York City the "World's Best American City," affirming New York's standing as an ideal tourist destination. New York City will open their arms to tourists and New Yorkers with an array of benefits and rewards for shopping, dining, lodging and entertainment.

These incentives, launched in the summer of 2005, include the Summer Breaks and The Third Night programs. ,which make it easier for people to plan a trip to New York City by offering them incredible savings on accommodation, activities, shopping and dining. Beaches, concerts, and films in Bryant Park are some of the joys that summer in the city has to offer.

Tourism's impact on the health of the city cannot be underestimated: Each year, incoming visitors help generate $24 billion a year in economic activity and support nearly 300,000 jobs in all five boroughs. Our city's world-class attractions, restaurants, shops and major events make the Big Apple one of the premier travel destinations for visitors from every corner of the globe.
